Sequim woman qualifies for World Series of Poker

Jackie Burnett, a Sequim resident, won a seat in the World Series of Poker main event. She defeated more than 600 players in a No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament at the Silver Dollar casino in Renton.

Ms. Burnett played for eleven hours during which she was down to only two chips and bet all in more than a dozen times. “It's all a blur. I didn't know where the time went”, Burnett said.

Ms. Burnett explained that she didn’t think she was going to make it through the first round. “I just wanted to play for a while so I didn't have to wait for my team.” Her team consisted of five other players of the Peninsula League, which plays every week to gain points to be able to play in bigger tournaments.

The lucky winner confessed that she learned to play by watching tournaments on television.
