Allan Goehring won the record Prize of $2.4 million on the World Poker Tour at the Commerce Casino. This is clearly the biggest first prize given to the date for any event on the World Poker Tour. There was also a record in the number of players which reached 692, each of them posted the entry fee of $10,000 which made a prize pool of close to $7 Million Dollars.
This comes as a proof of the amazing upswing Poker is going through, with the prize money growing faster on the WPT than it ever did on the P.G.A. golf tour or any other tour. These are very good news for the WPT, whose audience is growing noticeably, specially because of the increased prize pools.
Goehring defeated professionals such as Phil Helmuth, T. J. Cloutier, Jennifer Harman, Scotty Smith, Barry Greenstein, Antonio Esfandiari, J. C. Tran, Jim Bechtel, Dan Harrington, Huck Seed, Eric Siedel, Gus Hanson, Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Unibomber Phil Laak and World Number 1 ranked player Mike Mizrachi.
Other well known players were Lakers’ owner Jerry Buss, movie stars Gabe Kaplan and James Woods and artist Joe-Joe Bentry.
It was quite a tournament for Allan Goehring who has just won his second prize on WPT. The World Poker Challenge will be at the Reno Hilton on March 27th and the WPT Championship will be at the Bellagio in Las Vegas on April 18th.
The WPT Championship expects to draw more than 600 players that will pay $25,000 for the possibility to take a shot at the $5 Million dollar check plus the tour title the winner gets.
